If you are looking for alternatives to the usual ball-dropping at midnight celebrations, you may be interested in heading to Pisa to take in the Balkan orchestra “Zzzzingheri di Maremma” Zastava Orkestar. Or head to Prato for a New Year’s festival where alternative/funk group Piqued Jacks and electro/swing band Swingrowers will be entertaining revelers on an open-air stage in Piazza San Fracesco. For a more upscale evening, Lucca’s Medieval architecture will be the backdrop for ringing in the new year with Luca Maffei, the Band Gold 5, singer G Tune, and choreographer Stefano Bellina.
And of course, if you wish to enjoy the last moments of 2017 in the cradle of the Italian Renaissance, our beautiful city of Florence will definitely not disappoint.
The charming capital will be hosting five differently themed events throughout the city to welcome 2018: in Piazzale Michelangelo a pop concert featuring artists such as Morgan, a classical music concert conducted by Giuseppe Lanzetta in Piazza Signoria, a light & sound show at Piazza Santissima Annunziata, family friendly workshops and festivities at Piazza Bartali a Gavinana, and a New Orleans style marching band in Oltrarno.
There is also ample choice for those who wish to celebrate at the theatre. Teatro Verdi will be performing the musical Grease and the Puccini welcomes the comic Paolo Migone. At the Niccolini, you can enjoy Drusilla Foer and “Mariti e Mogli” with Monica Guerritore and Francesca Raggiani at the Pergola. Lastly, the Rifredi Theatre is putting on “La briscola in cinque.”
