The past year has been immensely successful for the wines of Viticcio. Our labels were tasted by all the major wine magazines around the world and obtained excellent scores, most notably our Chianti Classico, which has achieved an international reputation of being consistently and reliably fantastic quality.

We’ve put a little summary of our wines and how they comparatively stacked up in each magazine.

TOSCANA MONILE IGT

We are very satisfied with our Monile 2013, a Super Tuscan obtained from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. A wine that is “very intense in the mouth as well as the notes,” as described by Falstaff, “full and dense at the beginning, with fragrant notes of berries.”

Monile gained the following points:

James Suckling         95

Wine Spectator          89

Falstaff                        93

VITICCIO CHIANTI CLASSICO 2014

We finish up our little summary with Viticcio Chianti Classico 2014, our most storied wine, our first label bottled in 1966. The best points came from James Suckling who wrote that it is “so fine for the vintage.” 2014, was in fact, a difficult vintage with a lot of rain in Tuscany, and so we pleased to still have made a quality wine.

The points received are:

James Suckling         91

Decanter                    89 – Bronze Medal 2017 Decanter World Wine Awards

VITICCIO CHIANTI CLASSICO RISERVA 2013

Our Viticcio Chianti Classico Riserva 2013, a flagship label, had exceptional results, receiving 90 points from Wine Spectator who gave it a glowing review.

“There’s depth to the plum, cherry, black pepper and underbrush notes in this well-structured red, showing energy and complexity, with a fresh tobacco-tinged aftertaste.”

Here are the points for our Chianti Classico Riserva:

Wine Spectator          90

James Suckling         92

Decanter                    88 – Bronze Medal 2017 Decanter World Wine Awards

VITICCIO CHIANTI CLASSICO PRUNAIO GRAN SELEZIONE 2013

One of our top performers this year, that reached high scores all around, was Viticcio Chianti Classico Prunaio Gran Selezione 2013. James Suckling described it as being “refined and balanced, medium body, ultra fine tannins and a silk texture.”

Prunaio obtained the following points:
